ADDIS ABABA, FEBRUARY 13, 2022 — The United Nations Deputy Secretary General, Amina Mohammed, after visiting Ethiopia gave her second press briefing in which she pointed out the hostilities affected women and girls the worst in an unimaginable ways. "Ethiopian women writ large were affected in a way that is unimaginable in your worst nightmares. You cannot imagine what has happened to the women in Ethiopia." said the UN Deputy Secretary General who visited last week Ethiopia's Tigray, Amhara, Afar and drought stricken Somali region. She also pointed out that trust had been broken and that the fighting was not taking place between regional governments but instead between different groups. The Afar, she said, were outraged because of what happened to their women. The DSG said the Afar have an unspoken tradition where a woman must not be harmed even during war and that witnessing their women getting harmed or killed will be something difficult for them to get over.
