ADDIS ABABA, DECEMBER 12, 2021 - The Ethiopian Sports Federation of North America pledges to donate 350,000 USD over 5 years for school construction in areas impacted during the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) invasion in Amhara and Afar.

"Thank You Ethiopian Sports Federation of North America Board & members for your generous immediate gift of $100 thousand & for total of $350 thousand over 5 years for school construction in areas impacted by TPLF terrorism in Ethiopia. You set a great example for all!", said Fitsum Arega, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the USA, Non-Resident Ambassador to Jamaica & Panama.

Until the end of August, the TPLF terrorists destroyed over 7,000 schools in the Afar and Amhara regions of Ethiopia, according to the then Minister of Education, Getahun Mekuria.

The current Minister of Education, Professor Birhanu Nega, said today that in Amhara region alone about 230 million USD is needed to rebuild the schools that were destroyed by the TPLF forces.

In the Afar region 455 schools and in Amhara region over 1,577 schools [excluding schools in North Shewa] were destroyed. As a result, millions of students were forced to remain out of school.

In September 8, 2021, the school that the long distance legend, Haile Gebreselassie, built in 2019 at Tsagibji Woreda, Wag Himra zone, Amhara region, was also destroyed by the TPLF terrorist group.

“The destruction of schools and hospitals is a heinous crime and should be viewed as a war crime,” said Athlete Haile Gebreselassie after he found out that the school he once built for children who used to learn under a shade of a tree no longer exists.

"It seems like the TPLF terrorist group does not want to see educated people in Amhara which is why it is intentionally targeting and destroying schools", said the Amhara Education Bureau. "It has looted computers, laptops, plasma screen, photocopy machines, destroyed VSAT and lab equipment", added the bureau head.

ADDIS ABABA – Oromia Regional Government said in a statement today that the demolishing of illegal housing taking place in the newly formed Shaggar City does not target Mosques. This statement came amid the destruction of another Mosque at Ajamba, at the outskirt of west Addis Ababa. "Some groups are painting as if the demolishing of illegal houses targets one single religion", said Hailu Adugna, Communication Office Head, Oromia region. "When we are implementing this decision, many interest groups are disseminating information as if we are targeting one ethnicity and one religion. This is wrong.", said Hailu Adugna.
