African absence at UN Security Council is 'great injustice,' — President Erdogan

ADDIS ABABA, DECEMBER 18, 2021 — The 3rd Turkey-Africa Partnership Summit began Thursday with a meeting of high-level government officials in Istanbul, Turkey’s Communications Directorate said in a statement, according to a report from Anadolu Agency.

The summit is expected to ensure the transition of strategic ties between Turkey and the African Union as well as African countries to a new stage, it said.

Over 100 government ministers and 16 African heads of state are attending the summit which is being held under the theme "Enhanced Partnership for Common Development and Prosperity".

“With the communique, action plan and joint implementation report, expected to be adopted at the summit, relations improving in every area between Turkey and Africa, including the concrete projects to be carried out for the benefit of the continent, will be shaped between 2022 and 2026 until the next summit,”said the Directorate of Communications.

According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish President protested the unrepresentative setup of the UN Security Council.

"It is a "great injustice" that the African continent, with its population of 1.3 billion, is not represented at the UN Security Council, Turkey's president said on Saturday. The summit will continue with a meeting of foreign ministers Dec. 17", said President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during the summit.

"I commend Recep Tayyip Erdogan for sustaining a platform that continues to advance and promote mutually beneficial cooperation between Turkey and African countries. This Summit is an important mechanism for development cooperation", tweeted Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who is attending the summit.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed attended this summit in Turkey at a time the European Union (EU) was pushing the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) to adopt a resolution on Ethiopia which Ethiopia including African nations objected.

Thousands Attend Funeral For Four Muslims Killed By Police In Addis Ababa
