TPLF is about to make its 7th mistake — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed

ADDIS ABABA, JANUARY 10, 2022 — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) is preparing for yet another round of attack which the Prime Minister called its "7th TPLF mistake".

During the inauguration of the Ministry of Defense headquarters yesterday, rhe Prime Minister said TPLF is provoking Ethiopian forces who have stood their grounds from left and right.

He said when his government decided to apologize to Ethiopians during the hours of change in 2018, TPLF refused follow suit and made its first historical mistake.

The second mistake the Prime Minister cited was when Prosperity Party (PP) was formed. He said had the TPLF truly stood for the needs of Tigrayans, it would have either stayed within PP or could have at least divided itself and remained partially within PP. This has brought a lot of problems for the TPLF.

The third mistake was the election it carried out in Tigray which the Prime Minister referred to it as a "sham" election.

The fourth mistake he mentioned was the attack the TPLF carried out on the Northern Command.

The fifth mistake, according to the Prime Minister, was that the TPLF decided to start war in Amhara and Afar sacrificing many lives.

The sixth mistake the TPLF made was its decision to capture Dessie without having the necessary logistics, organization or planning. The Prime Minister said the group moved towards Dessie blindly as if things would be a walk in the park.

PM Abiy Ahmed used these explanations to justify his government's decision not to enter into Tigray. He said just because one has won, it does not mean he must move blindly. He said his government has learned this from the mistakes of TPLF.

Although, the federal government has ordered Ethiopian forces to hold their ground, the Prime Minister said TPLF is still not sitting down.

"It is provoking us from left and right. The TPLF will never achieve victory but it is aimlessly endangering the lives of Tigrayan youth and making yet again its seventh mistake. Although, it is up to the TPLF to learn from its mistakes, I want to warn them to desist. If you don't desist, we will as usual inflict heavy punishment upon you", warned Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

Even though the Prime Minister has not mentioned the exact TPLF provocation, there are reports of TPLF attack in Alamata and near Kobo in addition to the groups repeated provocation to find a passage through Wolkait and Humera to Sudan.

However, so far most of the methods of resistance that the Ethiopian government has followed seems to be airstrikes in Tigray where TPLF forces, reportedly, are reorganizing disguised as IDPs, humanitarian workers in humanitarian vehicles. The TPLF had already used such tactics in Amhara and Afar. It had used civilian infrastructures such as schools and places of worship as military camps so as to avoid attacks.

Another Mosque Demolished in Ethiopia as Regional Government Denies Targeting Mosques

ADDIS ABABA – Oromia Regional Government said in a statement today that the demolishing of illegal housing taking place in the newly formed Shaggar City does not target Mosques. This statement came amid the destruction of another Mosque at Ajamba, at the outskirt of west Addis Ababa. In the statement, the regional government stated that the demolishing of illegal houses is planned to take place around 600 cities in Oromia. "Some groups are painting as if the demolishing of illegal houses targets one single religion", said Hailu Adugna, Communication Office Head, Oromia region. "When we are implementing this decision, many interest groups are disseminating information as if we are targeting one ethnicity and one religion. This is wrong.", said Hailu Adugna.
