TPLF launched fresh attacks on Abala, Afar, displacing thousands and blocking aid

Mirsi Darsa is an Afar girl who was displaced from Abala when the TPLF indiscriminately bombarded her hometown with heavy artillery.

ADDIS ABABA, JANUARY 14, 2022 — The infamous Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) has launched fresh attacks today on Abala town, capital of Kilbatti Rasu (Zone 2), Afar region, preventing the delivery of humanitarian aid into Tigray, killing and displacing thousands from Abala.

The humanitarian convoys follow the 50 kilometer Abala-Mekelle corridor which has been suspended when the TPLF, in December 25, began shelling Abala town killing civilians including children.

As a result, the new attack by the TPLF on civilian population, thousands are forced to flee and reports indicate only small Afar militia men and Afar Special Forces are defending their town against TPLF incursion.

The Ethiopian government has not responded to these fresh attacks. However, yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had said the TPLF carried out an attack on Abala town but the statement was more focused on exposing TPLF's intent to starve Tigray by blocking aid coming to the region.

Muhammed Zeynu, a Mufti and a Human Rights Activist, said Abala needs special attention because it is logistically close to Mekelle which makes it easy for the TPLF terrorists to shell the town with heavy artillery killing civilians and destroying property. He urged for humanitarian assistance for the Afar who are displaced as a result of the TPLF attack.

Muhammed also shared the story of Mirsi Darsa, a girl who was displaced due to the TPLF's indiscriminate shelling of Abala town. He said she is know located in an IDP camp in Erebti Woreda.

  1. GoE stubbed #Afar at the back by turning deaf ear to the suffering and misery of the people at the hands of TPLF aggression.

Sooner or latwr, Abiy's negligence and underestimation of the war on Afras will cost him hefty price. He has no choice but maintain the trust Afar people before it is badly erroded and become irreparable because of TPLF's continued aggression and his government's weekness to protect Afars.

This forced the Muslims to throw stones at the police pushing them out of the Mosque. In a statement released on Friday, Addis Ababa Police said that two were killed. Although the statement did identify the victims, they were later identified as Siraj Mohammed and Abubaker Elias. Addis police said only four individuals, 37 police officers as well as 15 different police backup forces were injured. Many expected better years when the Oromia Regional government decided to establish the Shaggar City with a promise of ensuring equal growth and

Another Mosque Demolished in Ethiopia as Regional Government Denies Targeting Mosques

ADDIS ABABA – Oromia Regional Government said in a statement today that the demolishing of illegal housing taking place in the newly formed Shaggar City does not target Mosques. This statement came amid the destruction of another Mosque at Ajamba, at the outskirt of west Addis Ababa. In the statement, the regional government stated that the demolishing of illegal houses is planned to take place around 600 cities in Oromia. "Some groups are painting as if the demolishing of illegal houses targets one single religion", said Hailu Adugna, Communication Office Head, Oromia region. "When we are implementing this decision, many interest groups are disseminating information as if we are targeting one ethnicity and one religion. This is wrong.", said Hailu Adugna.
