ADDIS ABABA, JANUARY 21, 2022 — The Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fighters raped more than 217 women and girls and killed more than 548 civilians in just South Wollo zone of Amhara region, according to an investigation carried out by the South Wollo Zone Administration.

Dr. Abdi Hussein, the Administrator of South Wollo Zone, said this was just the first phase report of the investigation which is currently ongoing.

The report indicated that the TPLF terrorists have raped girls as young as 8 and elderly women.

In South Wollo Zone alone, the TPLF fighters have ransacked and looted 101 health stations and 398 health posts, according to Dr. Abdi Hussein. Despite the challenges, however, he said most of the health facilities have been restored to the level of basic service provision.

In late October 2021, an investigation led by the Ministry of Justice found out that in some parts of Amhara and Afar regions, the TPLF fighters had killed 483 civilians, raped 109 women and injured 166 civilians beginning from June 2021 to October 2021. Some of the rape cases the investigative report revealed were horrific acts of violence against women and girls where at one instance 15 TPLF men ganged raped one woman, a seven month pregnant woman and they raped nuns intending to desecrate their religious sanctity.

However, the October 2021 investigation by the Ministry of Justice did not include Wollo Zone because at the time it was under the occupation of the TPLF terrorists.
