ADDIS ABABA, JANUARY 11, 2022 - Dr. Yilkal Kefale, President of Amhara region, said, in a briefing held today, that people should not be distracted by divisive rhetoric but instead should focus on preparing to eliminate the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) terrorist group, according to a report from the Amhara Media Corporation.
"It is correct that people are angered towards the release of TPLF members. We also believe they are criminals", said the President of Amhara region.
However, he said the TPLF terrorist group continued significantly its offensive even after the TPLF officials were apprehended. Therefore, he said, the arrest or release of these people should not be a cause for agony and should not distract one from the goal of eliminating the terrorist group.
He emphasized that the fight against the existential threat should continue even though the public, who yearns for unity and peace, is disheartened due to the release of TPLF members especially the Amhara who are the main victims of this conflict.
"The group is not attacking us alone. It is collaborating with Qemant extremists, Gumuz and Shene (OLA) groups including with external forces such as Egypt. It is working to destroy and ensure Ethiopia will never develop", said Dr. Yilkal Kefale, President of the Amhara region.
He explained that Amhara region will collaborate with the federal government to eliminate the terrorist group and restore what was lost during the conflict.
The President of Amhara region, however, advised the public not to be distracted by divisive ideas and forget the main goal of eliminating the terrorist group.
