French Ambassador visits Dessie Hospital and Wollo University which were ransacked by TPLF

ADDIS ABABA, JANUARY 21, 2022 — French Ambassador to Ethiopia Rémi Maréchaux visited Wollo University and Dessie Specialized Hospital which were ransacked and looted by the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) fighters.

The Directors of the university and the hospital showed the destruction caused by the TPLF terrorists on civilian infrastructures to the French Ambassador and his envoy.

Wollo University is undergoing restoration and it is expected to begin classes the coming month, according to the President.

Dr. Mengesha Ayene, Wollo University President, said that the terrorists stole anything they could carry while burning that which they could not.

Although, the French Ambassador Rémi Maréchaux said his country will assist in rebuilding the university, the President of Wollo University emphasized that the Ambassador's visit will help the international community understand the extent of destruction caused by the TPLF.

It is to be recalled that on December 12, 2021, the US government had said the atrocities and destruction committed by the TPLF in Amhara and Afar were "unconfirmed" and thus the visit by the French Ambassador is crucial in helping create awareness.

The French Ambassador promised that he will facilitate the technology experience exchange between Wollo University and universities in France.

Ambassador Rémi Maréchaux also pledged to help restore the 80 years old Dessie Specialized Hospital which used to serve 10 million citizens from Amhara, Afar including Tigray. At the moment, the hospital is only providing basic services after it was damaged and looted by the TPLF fighters.

ADDIS ABABA – Oromia Regional Government said in a statement today that the demolishing of illegal housing taking place in the newly formed Shaggar City does not target Mosques. This statement came amid the destruction of another Mosque at Ajamba, at the outskirt of west Addis Ababa. In the statement, the regional government stated that the demolishing of illegal houses is planned to take place around 600 cities in Oromia. "Some groups are painting as if the demolishing of illegal houses targets one single religion", said Hailu Adugna, Communication Office Head, Oromia region. "When we are implementing this decision, many interest groups are disseminating information as if we are targeting one ethnicity and one religion. This is wrong.", said Hailu Adugna.
