ADDIS ABABA, NOVEMBER 25, 2021 — Ethiopians gathered this morning at the United States (US) Embassy in Addis Ababa to denounce the repeated unsubstantiated news being released by the Embassy.
The Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Forum organized the protest that condemned US Embassy in Addis for releasing disinformation aimed at the diplomatic community.
The US Embassy in Addis has recently posted claiming that the possibility of a "terrorist attack in Ethiopia".
"Terrorists may attack with little or no warning, targeting diplomatic facilities, tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets/shopping malls, western businesses, restaurants, resorts, local government facilities and other public areas", said the US Embassy in Addis.
The US Embassy has also repeatedly called on its citizens to leave Ethiopia because of a "deteriorating" security situation.
The Ethiopian government, however, warned the US Embassy to desist from spreading terrorizing messages. It also said many embassies after initially giving in to the US fearmongering are now changing their minds.
"We want to confirm that the terrorizing news being released by the US is an support to the TPLF and an open war on Ethiopia", said a statement from the government.
According to Andrew Korybko, an American political analyst, who said Ethiopia might suspect that the US has ulterior motives in threatening an uninvited military intervention into the country on the pretext of evacuating its citizens who thus far don’t even want to leave because they still feel safe in the capital.
